History of Department Geography is the study of the features and systems of the earth’s surface, including continents, mountains, seas, weather, and plant life, and of the ways in which countries and people organize life within an area. Geography was introduced as a subject for B.A. first year, in 1964. Geography department established in 1978. Prof. A. S. Asnare acted as head and vice principal till his retirement in 2000. In 1978 Dr. J.B. Chaugule joined as senior college lecturer. Dr. K. G. Kulkarni joined as Junior college teacher (1979 to 2012). Shri. A.H. Asnare served as NCC Officer from 1964 to 1980 and Dr. J. B. Chaugule served as NCC Officer for two decades 1980 to 2000). Former HOD

Infrastructure Learning Resources of The Department The geography laboratory is well-equipped with all necessary instruments like surveying instruments including Plain table with accessories, prismatic compass sets, dumpy level, ebony level, Cross staff, Telescope alidade, Pedometer, Rotameter, Handheld G.P.S. etc. Weather instruments including cup anemometer, wind vanes, rain gauge etc. Drawing instruments including tracing tables. We have an adequate collection of maps & charts like charts showing weathering processes, signs and symbols used in topographical maps, signs and symbols used in Indian Daily Weather Report, cultural activities, etc. Maps for various areas include world, continents, countries, states etc. Three Dimensional maps for better understanding of relief are, Bathometric World model map, map of India and Maharashtra, Satellite images of Sangli-Miraj- Kupwad, TM Satellite Image of India Reach Library section of Reference Book, Nearly about 300 e-books, Text books, 2 Theses, Project report of every year available for reference.
